In recognition of #OrangeShirtDayNL, the CBA Chamber board of directors took some time at the virtual board meeting held on September 29th, 2021 to reflect on how as an organization we can become allies for Indigenous people. The board of directors is taking action on the following:
- Connect with the Indigenous Student Resource Centre at Memorial University (https://www.mun.ca/indigenous/students/isrc/index.php) to determine how our organization can be of assistance to students exploring careers in business.
- Share the resources provided by First Light NL with our network: https://firstlightnl.ca/site/uploads/2021/09/What-Can-I-Do-Orange-Shirt-Day.pdf
- Encourage business owners and their staff to consider enrolling in Indigenous Cultural Diversity Training: https://firstlightnl.ca/site/uploads/2018/11/Training-Info-First-Light.pdf
- Consider how our organization can become aware of and highlight Indigenous-owned businesses in our region (For a directory of Indigenous-owned businesses in Newfoundland please visit: https://www.ulnooweg.ca/business-directory/)
Our office will be closed on September 30th, 2021 to take time to recognize the legacy of Residential Schools, and the painful, ongoing impact it has had on generations of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
